Science, Cheerleaders, Cleavage???? Oh My

Did you notice you clicked on this blog with a little more curiosity then normal?  I know I did, and I haven't even written it yet.  So ladies and gentleman, hopefully you've slept off that tryptophan, walked off that extra helping of mashed potatoes, and discussed your way out of any new family issues that the holiday has brought upon y'all.....let's blog!!

1)  The Science Cheerleaders?  The who, the what?  Is that like "Live on tape?"  The ultimate oxymoron it might be, but it is a real group of women doing what they can to bring science awareness to young girls...by cheer leading.  Watch their video and see what you think:

Now before we go too far into the discussion, let's just think about what we just saw.  Yes, those were turquoise and orange cheer leading outfits...apparently science uses the same color scheme as the football team saved by Ace Ventura.  Yes, you did just hear a cheerleader in one breath say "I currently work at Johnson Space Center as an engineer" and in the next breath yell "I like to do the Space Cowboy Dance!!"  If I were producing a show for the E! Network I would have a LOT of material to work with in that 2:51 minute clip; but I'm not.  I'm a student teacher who spends 99% of my day thinking about school, 0.5% of my day blogging, and the other 0.5% goes into what I call mystery time.  But I digress...My blogging pal "Good Math/Bad Math" has opened my eyes to cheerleaders in a way I've never look at them before...and I have looked at them before!!  Bottom line (my opinion), I saw women cheer leading - NOT talking about science.  Is the plan of the Science Cheerleaders working?  You make the call:

2)  Hot Tub Time Machine - I wish I could get 89 minutes back of my life.  But there was one minute in the movie where our favorite actor, John Cusack, has an epiphany about simply doing what makes him happy.  The scene brought this thought into my head:  What would it be like if I was just sent back in time to this moment right now to have another chance at living out my life?  What would be the first thing I would do?  Unfortunately the next scene in the movie was watching someones arm get ripped off so my thoughts were a little derailed, but after the movie ended I came right over to the computer and began writing this blog.  Next up, I'm going to go give my daughter a kiss on the cheek and then maybe go for a 2am jog.  Hot Tub Time Machine gave me a perspective on life that each day can be unique if we make it unique.  That is one of the great things about being a teacher.  Each day is a new chance to inspire, lead, and challenge others.  The one person most important in all of this...ourselves!  Thanks Hot Tub Time Machine for that one minute of inspiration!!

3)  So I haven't been paying much attention to the Seahawks this year.  But has anyone else noticed that they are tied for first place in the NFC West with a 5 - 6 record?  This is pathetic, there is no inspiration on this team right now to play better.  Ring.....Ring.....Hello Science Cheerleaders?

4)  "Epic Fail"  If you haven't heard this term yet that means you are not anywhere near middle school students.  This term means pretty much what you'd expect...someone who doesn't achieve their goal, and leaves you wondering just who was driving the wheel during the attempt at achieving the goal.  Below are a couple examples:

5)  I'll end today on a sad note as a great comic actor, Leslie Nielsen Died today at the age of 85.  I learned a lot about comedic timing from him growing up.  R.I.P. Mr. Neilsen, and don't call me Shirley!!

Cheerio!!

  1. Dear Cheerio,

You are an inspiration! You are awake and taking notes all over the board. Somehow you always find your way back to being the best teacher you can be from reflections all around you. And you are very multi-dimensional including clips from movies, you tube and photos. I aspire to your level of ease with all the different media! Thank you for sharing what you find funny, interesting and current. I'll be sure to keep and ear out for the "epic fall" while I am doing my best to inspire, lead and challenge my students.

    Keep up the good work!
